Breakfast at Sea J’s Café. A smaller grubbier place does not exist in my recent memory. Breakfast was great! (Must get their fish and chips sometime.)

We spent our last night back at Blake Island, where we began this trip on August 25th, 34 days ago. There were more boats at the marina than we expected at this time of year, on a Monday. But the weather is beautiful, so boaters are out!

Back into the smoke…

The park ranger told us that moorage rates will be going up soon...trying to get clarification on that. He also told us a certain raccoon might be even more aggressive after spending an entire day in someone’s galley last week. Yuk!

ToG is on her way home to the Foss. We’ll spend some time with the little boys and then we head to the East Coast to hang out with family and see New England in the fall.

Cruise Highlights

Boating with good friends!

Humpback whales!

Food – fresh crab, pizzas on the grill, dinners in Vancouver at China Town BBQ and Fanny Bay Oyster Bar. There were many, many good meals!

Nine new destinations in one trip!

1.      Watmough Bay, Lopez Island (mooring ball)

2.      Otter Bay Marina on North Pender Island (Gulf Islands)

3.      Fairwinds Marina on Vancouver Island

4.      Lund Small Craft Harbor, Sunshine Coast B.C.

5.      Melanie Cove in Prideaux Haven, Desolation Sound B.C. (anchor)

6.      Secret Cove Marina, Sunshine Coast B.C.

7.      Toba Wilderness Marina, Desolation Sound B.C.

8.      Oyster Cove in Pendrell Sound, Desolation Sound B.C. (anchor)

9.      False Creek Marina in Vancouver B.C.

Anchoring for five nights in a row in Garrison Bay was awesome!

Hearing the woman sitting next to Nick at Fanny Bay Oyster Bar ask him if he was from Washington State – she could tell by his accent. Huh?

Possibly the best thing about this trip was the consistent pleasant weather and calm sea conditions. We saw very little rain, almost zero wind, and wonderfully warm temps without excessive heat. Just a bit of smoke in places. Truly great cruising weather!

Not so great things included getting hit and then boarded in the middle of the night at Cap Sante! The poor little sparrow that hit the window (and probably didn’t make it). Zero shrimp. A depressing Vancouver China Town. Oh, and very sobering to see the Mutiny Bay float plane crash salvage operations on our way home.

We are already talking about making Desolation Sound an annual late August to mid-September cruising experience. So much more to see and do…
