I want to say a little more about Otter Bay Marina. This was a new destination for us and one we hope to visit again. Since we are on our way to Desolation, we are doing quick overnights – not a lot of time to explore new areas. The staff was very helpful, the grounds are nice…with two pools (adults only/family), and the marina itself is nicely maintained and picturesque.
The run up Trincomali Channel yesterday was long, from North Pender Island to the Fairwinds Marina north of Nanaimo.
Beautiful spot on Prevost Island:
We hit Dodd Narrows at slack so it was no problem, except - note to selves – don’t get behind sailboats! Everything was going well, a few boats were lined up to transit, with us logically falling in behind a sailboat. In the channel, he slowed down, which made it difficult for me to keep up speed while keeping a safe distance. No idea why he did that. Something similar happened the last time we went through.
Here is the sky we were leaving behind:
Sky ahead of us:
Smoky!
Yet another new destination for us was Fairwinds Marina at Schooner Cove. Coorie Doon was there recently so recommended we stay there rather than Nanaimo. Another nice marina. Free laundry! Unfortunately, the new restaurant was closed yesterday – a reason to visit again.
We are crossing the Straits of Georgia and Malaspina now – changing course a couple of times to avoid Whiskey Golf, and this tug towing a log boom:
Saw some humpbacks on the way!
On our way to Pender Harbour…
