Nick does not share my fascination with working boats. I was pleasantly surprised to see this huge thing go by us in the Swinomish Channel as we were parked at the La Conner Marina.
He swore.
Little did I know it would make a U-turn and dock right next to us!
The captain asked us to keep an eye on his boat when he and the crew left. Nick told him we might take it for a spin. If only!

We departed La Conner fairly early yesterday morning, as there was a 10am +1 tide. Since we got such an early start, we decided to bypass Edmonds and continue to Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island.
The Swinomish was a bit squirrelly but it got really bad as we left Skagit Bay and rounded the tip of Camano Island. We got the crap beat out of us for about twenty minutes. Waves washed over the entire boat, making it difficult to see. Seas were beamy and following. Things that normally stay put came off the counters. This doesn’t freak me out like it used to but still, no fun. Smooth water the rest of the way south through Saratoga Pass.
We pulled into Eagle Harbor, anchored, then dinghied to shore for a quick walk through town and drinks/dinner at The Harbour Public House.

We left Bainbridge this morning after another dinghy trip to Pegasus Coffee for breakfast, heading back to the Des Moines Marina fuel dock for diesel, propane, and dinghy gas. No mishap this time! (See my May 15 post Boating Mishap.)
We’re now on our way back to our home port. 35 days! We’ll catch up with Malcolm and Ren this weekend, beginning with Mac’s T-ball game on Saturday. We hope to make some short South Sound cruises this month, plus a Wala Walla wine tasting trip.
