Last Day of Summer & a Humpback Show!

We spent one night in La Conner and then headed further south, unsure of exactly where we'd stay. Turns out, Nick had one of his brilliant ideas! It was the last day of summer, looking like a very nice day, so why not power all the way to Des Moines and end the trip the same way we started it...with Steve and Tracey!
On the way we were treated to a spectacular show by a humpback whale, just north of Edmonds. I was at the helm and saw something leap completely out of the water about a half a mile ahead of us. This whale looked like it was taking flight! As usual, my photos and videos weren't great - too hard to use a phone in bright sunlight and over water.
It kept jumping and slapping its pectoral fins on the water, making a lot of noise and sending water rushing into the air.

Although there were scores of fishing boats in the area, there weren't really any other boats by the humpback and it seemed like our very own private display. I will try to post some videos later. Wow, that was awesome!
It was a long cruise, 8.5 hours at around 8 knots, but worth it. Steve and Nick fetched takeout from Wally's and we had a great time.
This morning we left Des Moines, cruising past a good sized regatta at Brown's Point.

Trip Summary:
30 days
6 nights on the hook, and 2 on buoys
3 new locations (Van Isle Marina, Genoa Bay, Maple Bay)
6 marine park stays
323 nautical miles (approx.)
This is our last lengthy cruise of the season - it's been a great five months of mostly ideal conditions! We hope to get out a couple more times before the end of the year.
