I meant to take photos of the Maple Bay Marina but completely forgot. Nice, small marina with a store and chandlery, art gallery, and pub. A row of beautiful floating homes lines one end of the docks, and there is a channel into the inner bay that offered a nice place for me to use my kayak for a quick paddle.

Nick and I took the dinghy a short way to the very small village area of Maple Bay, specifically to The Lion Rampant Scottish Pub. They have their own dock, pictured below.

The view was great, with nice outdoor seating on the deck. We enjoyed small glasses of beer...but here's the deal. There was one Scottish beer on the menu, and zero food that looked remotely Scottish. (Is it too much to expect some genuine haggis?) There were bagpipes on the wall and tartan over an entry table. There may have been a few other decorations, but what makes a pub Scottish? We've been in a few. Granted they were in Scotland. This just didn't have any special feeling of being in a pub, let alone Scottish. That said, I'd go back and give it another try.

ToG and Coorie Doon made our way a little further north to Thetis Island and Telegraph Harbor yesterday. We were here in May for the American Tug gathering. We really enjoy this place and are happy to return. We all took the hike that ends up in the wetland area in the middle of some pasture land. A few ups and downs, and further than I remember, but a good walk. Except for the mosquitos!

We plan to catch the ferry a little later for some walking and lunch in Chemainus.

*Note to self: We enjoyed meeting friends of Jeanie and Steve in Maple Bay. They are Canadian and spend months at a time on their Ranger Tugs 29 Gargoyle, mostly in Canadian waters. Their tales of travels through the Broughtons has made us renew our commitment to getting up there next year.
