Nanaimo & Back to the U.S.

One thing is true about this trip. Mostly we have not stuck to our itinerary. We decided to skip Egmont on the way back from Chatterbox. We thought we’d head further south to Secret Cove but then decided to keep going to Nanaimo. The water was mostly bad, so not the best Strait of Georgia crossing. We arrived in Nanaimo, finally, and headed straight to the Dinghy Dock Pub on Protection Island, just across from downtown. Nick had talked with a guy in Pender Harbour who told him this place is a “must do.” So we did. Fun place. The only licensed floating pub in Canada. (With the best side salad on the planet. Sorry, no food photo.)

We made an early night of it because we had to leave the Nanaimo Port Authority Marina by 5:30am to transit Dodd Narrows safely. No sweat. The water was kind of lumpy again on our way across the border, especially snotty as we came around Turn Point Light Station.
Next stop Garrison Bay. Ahhhh…….
Side note: We had to pull into the customs dock because I forgot to update our decal number for 2023. Oh well, we took the opportunity to pump out.
